The popular Genesis GV60 all-electric SUV is getting a mid-life update to keep it fresh as it faces competition from new rivals like the upcoming Tesla Model Y ‘Juniper’ and the Xpeng G6.

The GV60 upgrades follow hot on the heels of tweaks confirmed for Genesis’ slightly bigger GV70 all-electric SUV, uncovered at the Los Angeles Auto Show last year.

You’ll struggle to spot much of a difference to the new GV60 from the outside, but the front bumper gets a new three-dimensional shape, there are new 21-inch alloys, the wheel arches are now painted in the same colour as the rest of the car’s body and there are new headlights that feature additional technology.

Using so-called ‘micro lens arrays (MLA)’ the two lines of LEDs – an important part of Genesis’ design language – offer far greater lighting performance. The technology was first debuted on Genesis’ flagship G90 model.

Inside, a more striking and important change sees a whole new single-screen infotainment system being introduced. The 27-inch ‘connected car integrated cockpit’ seamlessly links the driver information screen with the area reserved for navigation and entertainment. GV60 buyers will also be delighted to hear that it brings wireless connection for smartphones with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto functionality.

The GV60’s ‘crystal sphere’ rotating gear selector remains, but the steering wheel is a new, simpler, three-spoke design with easier to use controls on it.

There’s no word yet on any upgrades to the battery pack, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the GV60 followed the lead set by the GV70 and sister cars the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 – all of which use the Hyundai Group’s E-GMP platform. The GV70, Ioniq 5 and EV6 all recently saw battery capacity boosts from the 77.4kWh unit still used in the GV60 to an 84kWh unit, giving a handy maximum range increase.

An 84kWh battery in a GV60 would likely increase the current car’s range from 321 miles to over 350 miles.

Similarly, there’s no word yet on when the updated GV60 will make it to the UK, but we’d expect it to be in the second half of the year. We’d expect prices to rise from the current entry price of £54,105.
