Northern Lights in Wales on New Year's Eve

As many enjoyed traditional New Year’s Eve fireworks, stargazers in Wales were treated to a light display of a more natural variety in the final hours of 2015.

Photographer Alyn Wallace captured an amazing timelapse of the Northern Lights over Anglesey, an island off the north-west coast of Wales.

The footage shows the incredible silhouette cast across the sky over Penmon Lighthouse as 2016 arrived.

After being uploaded by Wallace to Facebook on Saturday, the video has been seen by more than 3,000 times.

The Northern Lights aurora is usually seen in the high latitude Arctic regions. However, as the video shows, the phenomenon can sometimes be seen in other parts of the world.
