The story of Ahmed Mohamed

Ahmed Mohamed brought a homemade clock into school and was arrested for 'making a hoax bomb.'

He brought it in to impress his teachers at Irving Macarthur High School before being taken to a juvenile detention centre.

He was since released and the charges have been dropped.

"I made a clock, it was really easy." Ahmed told Dallas News, "I wanted to show her (the teacher] something small at first."

"it made me feel like I wasn't human. It made me feel like a criminal."

#IStandWithAhmed started trending worldwide, with internship offers from Facebook and Twitter for Ahmed, as well as a visit to the White House from President Obama.

Others commented on the injustice of being arrested for some technical tinkering, suggesting that the colour of his skin could have been behind the decision to arrest the high school student.

Ahmed plans to transfer schools after the episode.
