F1 preview: A lap of the Spanish Grand Prix

Follow the latest updates live from the Belgian Grand Prix as Lewis Hamilton attempts to make it five wins from seven this season, but the six-time world champion could well be in for an unpredictable afternoon.

Hamilton blitzed his way to pole position on Saturday, lapping more than half-a-second faster than second-placed Valtteri Bottas and Max Verstappen in third. However, the long run from Turn One through Eau Rouge and up to Les Combes offers the chance for those behind the leader to attack, as we’ve seen countless times in the past.

But there is also the threat of rain, with showers expected before the start of the race and sunny weather expected after to trigger a drying track. With Daniel Ricciardo in the low-downforce Renault in fourth, it could be a topsy-turvy opening lap at Spa. Follow the live updates below.

Lap 39: Hamilton still doesn't pit, but all three of him, Bottas and Verstappen as complaining about the worn tyres hitting the limit. Will anyone gamble and pit for fresh tyres?

Lap 37: Hamilton runs off! He locks up going into the bus-stop chicane and has to cut across it, though it doesn't cost him too much time as Bottas is really struggling too. Have his tyres gone though?

Lap 36: What a move from Perez. He pulls alongside Kvyat at the end of the Kemmel Straight, but the Russian won't give up the place and Perez has to go around the outside of Les Combes to take ninth and pull away from the rapidly-closing Gasly. Kvyat lets Gasly past before the end of the lap, and that's a good battle unfolding between the two drivers who didn't pit under the safety car.

Lap 36: Breaking - Ferrari overtake another car! Leclerc makes up a place as he gets by the Haas of Magnussen, moving him up to 15th of 17 runners. Ouch.

Lap 33: Raikkonen's run in the points is over for now as Perez gets by, while Vettell tells the team he's "going to get eaten up" if he stays on these tyres.

Lap 32: Gasly makes light work of Vettel, but the Ferrari then nearly ploughs into the back of him after losing downforce on his front wing and locks up, running on at Les Combes for good measure. They'll probably have to pit him now after that flat spot.
