Belgian Grand Prix LIVE result: Latest updates from F1 today as Lewis Hamilton wins at Spa
Follow the latest updates from the seventh round of the 2020 F1 season at Spa-Francorchamps as Hamilton extends his world championship advantage
Follow the latest updates live from the Belgian Grand Prix as Lewis Hamilton attempts to make it five wins from seven this season, but the six-time world champion could well be in for an unpredictable afternoon.
Hamilton blitzed his way to pole position on Saturday, lapping more than half-a-second faster than second-placed Valtteri Bottas and Max Verstappen in third. However, the long run from Turn One through Eau Rouge and up to Les Combes offers the chance for those behind the leader to attack, as we’ve seen countless times in the past.
But there is also the threat of rain, with showers expected before the start of the race and sunny weather expected after to trigger a drying track. With Daniel Ricciardo in the low-downforce Renault in fourth, it could be a topsy-turvy opening lap at Spa. Follow the live updates below.
Lap 30:Â Down at the back of the field, Gasly is launching his recovery drive from that strategy gamble and gets by Grosjean to take 13th, meaning Vettel is next in his sights. Vettel wants to stop for tyres, but is told that he will come out behind Leclerc if he does. Leclerc is currently 17th and last... so I don't need to tell you where that would put Vettel.
Lap 29:Â Bottas is told to give it everything he's got, which is strange as he's suddenly fallen more than four seconds behind race leader Hamilton. He's not pitting at the end of the lap, so what was that all about?
Lap 27:Â There's a lot going on there. Leclerc sets the fastest lap of the race - I know right - even though he's running last, while Raikkonen moves into the points in the Alfa Romeo even though he complains his right foot is in a pool of water. It's been a strange race so far.
Lap 26:Â Gasly's tyres are deserting him and he's a sitting duck, with Ocon the latest to get him in eerily similar circumstances on the Kemmel Straight. He pits at the end of the lap, and that strategy has left him with a lot of work to do.
Verstappen meanwhile is keeping Bottas very honest, with just 2.2s between them.
Lap 25: Leclerc pits from 13th, and it's a horror stop of five seconds that leaves the Monegasque asking why are they performing slow stops? A replay shows that one of the mechanics is adding some sort of hydraulic pressure to his car, which resulted in the stop being much slower than normal.
Lap 24:Â Albon needs a few laps to catch Gasly, but once he's in range it's easy as you like as he flashes past before Les Combes in similar fashion to Ricciardo's move three laps prior.
Lap 21:Â Ricciardo has caught Gasly, and the Renault comes charging past on the Kemmel Straight to snatch back fourth place from the AlphaTauri, who concedes the place before the braking zone. Next up behind is the man who replaced him in Alex Albon and the Red Bull, and that might not be such a straightforward fight.
