Zodiac signs provide endless inspiration for fashionable trinkets, from necklaces to stickers

It's a subtle way of wearing something personalised without actually carving your initials into it like a desk at school, says Rebecca Gonsalves

What does your star sign say about your style? Probably not very much at all, but that doesn't stop the signs of the zodiac providing endless inspiration for creators of fashionable trinkets. And even as someone on the more sceptical side, I can see the attraction – it's a subtle way of wearing something personalised without actually carving your initials into it like a desk at school.

There are a few interpretations of the trend, the most dramatic of which appeared in Peter Dundas' final collection for Pucci – though his floor-length sequin-embellished cape (1 - see gallery below) won't give you much change from £7,000. More accessible, but still special, is the brand's chain-link bag, which carries the same motifs on rich navy suede.

If fancy footwear is more your thing, Charlotte Olympia's “birthday” slippers (2) are a sweet way to broadcast your personality traits to the world. Each of the 12 designs uses richly shaded suede trimmed in gold, with a figurative Swarovski-studded zodiac embellishment on the toe

Unsurprisingly, the zodiac theme is a big trend in the upcoming Christmas collections. Anya Hindmarch's successful sticker shop in Selfridges will be boosted with smiley-face reinterpretations of the familiar signs (3). Jewellery brand Tatty Devine has also put a modern-day spin on them (4). Meanwhile, Aquarius is represented by a bottle of water, and the sweet acrylic and wood lion's head will appeal to cat lovers as well as fiery Leos.

For those who prefer to keep their mystical beliefs close to their chests, Laura Lee's approach is more subtle – as part of her Oracle collection (5) she has embellished simple zodiac symbols with pavé set diamonds.
