Why Meghan Markle co-ordinates her fashion choices with the Queen

People have noticed a shift in the Duchess’ wardrobe choices

Following in the footsteps of Princess Diana and Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle has become the royal family’s latest fashion trendsetter.

Her love of heritage British brands from Burberry to Barbour has led to many items reaching sell-out status, and her wedding reception dress is now available to buy in a 23-piece capsule collection from Stella McCartney, due to popular demand.

But since her marriage to Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, many have noticed that the Duchess of Sussex has eschewed her preferred navy and black shades, for pale neutrals and whites.

The Duchess wore a pale pink Goat dress for the Prince of Wales' 70th birthday at Buckingham Palace, a blush pink off-the-shoulder Carolina Herrera dress at Trooping the Colour and, most recently, a cream Givenchy cape dress for her first solo engagement with the Queen.

According to royal correspondents, it’s no coincidence that Markle’s colour palette has been muted for all her recent public appearances.

Apparently, this low-key style reveals a “show of respect” for the Queen.

“There has been a shift in dress for Meghan, who is classic but a little edgy in her taste,” Lizzi Zita, fashion broadcaster for Sky tells The Independent.

"But for this particular occasion, their first official joint engagement in Cheshire, Meghan is the perfect princess in a more demure classic style.

“She wore neutral colours, and this would have been a carefully considered option not to outshine the Queen who likes to wear strong colour with matching hats so that people can see her easily.

“I am sure we will see a return to her signature taste at more casual events but at the moment she is trying very hard to fulfill her duties and stay on the right side of her mother in law so fair play to her, she looked great.”
