Sunday Lunch

Chateau La Coste Rosé d'Une Nuit 2011

It is already August Bank Holiday weekend, so it might be one of the last opportunities this summer for enjoying light and refreshing wines, such as these three, in the garden. An elegant, smartly bottled, pale-pink Provençal rosé, full of fresh berry fruits and a tang of herbs, this is a delightful accompaniment to crustacea and fishy starters, as well as main-course salads and fruit puddings. Chill really thoroughly. £11.99, Adnams

Midweek meals

La Capa Roja Tempranillo Grenache 2011

An exception to the rule that most low-alcohol wines have naff labels, shout their low ABV on the label and taste of very little. Part of a new range of 9.5 per cent ABV wines from M&S, this is a great choice for those who want something undemanding and easily drinkable for a sultry evening or a light lunch. Made close to the Mediterranean coast in the Valencia region, it is soft, fruity and rather moreish. £7.99, Marks & Spencer

Bargain basement

Esprit Soleil Sauvignon Blanc 2011

Another wine that needs to be served well chilled, this is a screw-capped southern French Sauvignon Blanc that thinks it's from the New World, with lively, crisp flavours of tropical fruits, nettles and gooseberries. From the ultra-reliable Alain Grignon stable, it's a great choice for summer parties, picnics or barbecues, but also perfectly suitable for the table. £4.99 (each, for two bottles bought as part of a minimum purchase of six bottles until 29 October; normally £5.99), majestic.co.uk
