Wines of the week: Tinhof Blaufränkisch Leithaberg 2009; Château de Flaugergues Blanc 2014; Domaine les Terres de Beausoleil, Blanquette de Limoux
Terry Kirby selects the best bottles to buy
Three unusual grape varieties make for a trio of stunning wines just right for early summer drinking…
Sunday lunch
Tinhof Blaufränkisch Leithaberg 2009
A revelation: from Austria's Burgenland region, a sumptuous red from the local Blaufränkisch grape – medium-bodied but intense, gorgeous, fresh red fruits, some earthy underpinning and wonderfully balanced. Perfect for roast guinea fowl or chicken. £16.60, savageselection.co.uk
Midweek meal
Château de Flaugergues Blanc 2014
Another relatively rare grape here – Rolle – combines in full-bodied harmony with Grenache Blanc, both grown on a historic estate near Montpellier in the South of France. Flavours of lemons, white peaches and hints of green apple make this ideal for linguine with prawns. £9, Marks & Spencer
Bargain basement
Domaine les Terres de Beausoleil, Blanquette de Limoux
Elsewhere in the Languedoc-Roussillon, the Blanquette or Mauzac grape grown near Limoux makes for terrific, easy-drinking, sparkling wines: dry, refreshing and citric; the price here makes it just the ticket for a summer gathering. £6.99, Lidl
