Apple releases a new version of the iPad Pro

Apple has held a major event to release a whole host of new products.

New versions of the iPad, iMac, and AirPods were unveiled, as well as the first official announcement of Apple’s AirTags for item tracking.

Other announcements included a new iPhone colour and updates for Apple TV, Apple Card and the Podcasts app.

As with all Apple’s events in recent times, it took the form of a pre-recorded video in which Apple executives introduced the new products from its Apple Park campus.

The event comes amid big growth in Apple’s share price since the start of April that has boosted its market cap to $2.24 trillion (£1.6tn), ranking it as the world’s most valuable company.

There’s just over half an hour to go until today’s Apple Event begins.

Here’s a reminder of everything to expect:

- iPad Pro

- AirTags

- Apple Pencil

- New Magic Keyboard

- Podcast subscriptions

- (Possibly) new iPad and iPad mini, as well as an iMac.

Apple is about to hold a major event – here’s what it will announce

As is typical for a major Apple event, there’s a few different versions of Apple bingo going about. I reckon we’ll be able to tick off at least half of these within the first hour.

A live stream of the event will be available on the Apple events page, as well as through the Apple TV app. Most importantly, the stream will appear on Apple’s official YouTube page as soon as it begins.

This makes a pleasant change from events of the past, when Apple streamed them exclusively through its Safari web browser and made it so that only people with Apple devices could actually watch it.

We’ve just added Apple’s live stream to this page, you’ll see it if you scroll up slightly.

T-minus 10 minutes.

With five minutes to go, there’s already more than 160,000 people waiting for the live stream to begin.

The last event on 10 November, which saw the unveiling of new iPhones, received more than 10 million views.

We’re off! Wide shots of Apple Park, as we zoom around the spaceship campus. Onto the screen walks Tim Cook.

He begins by chatting briefly about the pandemic, before moving on to climate change. Cheerful.

“By 2030, Apple will be 100 per cent carbon neutral,” he says.

First up, Apple Card. Cook says its “the most successful credit card launch ever”.

I don’t know how you go about measuring that but he seems pretty certain about this claim.

A new feature called Apple Card Family has been added, which will allow family members to share credit lines.

Apple is introducing a new iPhone colour: Purple.

“It’s absolutely beautiful,” Cook says.

It will be available from 30 April across the latest iPhone range.
