Apple's 2014 iMac price, release date and specs - cheapest model starts at £899

Apple has announced a new entry-level addition to its iMac range of all-in-one desktop computers.

The new iMac is priced at £899 in the UK and $1,099 in the US, offering a 21.5-inch screen, a 1.4GHz dual-core Intel i5 processor, 8GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive.

Previously, Apple’s cheapest iMac was sold for £1,049 or $1,299 – with these prices now getting customers the 2.7GHz processor speed and 1TB hard drive.

The iMac hasn’t been updated since September last year when Apple added faster processors, graphics and Wi-Fi and the actual look of the device (with its tapered screen) hasn’t changed since October 2012.

The new iMac (including the rest of the range – the prices of which have all dropped by £100 to £150) are all available to order from Apple’s website.

The price cuts follow similar changes to Apple’s MacBook Air earlier this year, although the Mac mini is still Apple’s cheapest computer – starting at £499.
