The light cycles featured in the original Tron movie are iconic machines: futuristic, sleek and probably incredibly unwieldy anywhere outside of a computer.

Now it seems some motorcycle enthusiasts will be able to get their hands on the nearest thing – a new ‘hyper bike’ manufactured by Lotus and designed by Daniel Simon, the man responsible for the look of the light cycles in the 2010 Tron remake.

The C-01 will be the first motorbike ever given the Lotus name, although it’s actually being built by German racing firm Kodewa and tuner Holzer Group. There’s been no official word on how much the C-01 will cost or when it will go on sale, but the bike is certainly a joy to behold – even for those of us who’ve only ever straddled the pedal-powered type.

The chassis is made up of steel, titanium and carbon fiber and the wheelbase (65 inches) is a full 10 inches bigger than street-legal superbike. It weighs 400 pounds and its 4-stroke V-Twin engine offers 200bhp.

“With the Lotus C-01, we have only one ambition: to create a unique state-of-the-art machine that carries its brutal forces with elegance and style, a high-tech monster in a tailored suit,” said Simon.

“The shapes of the marvellous Lotus 49 were a main inspiration, and all colour schemes pay homage to iconic Lotus racing liveries, such as the dashing black and gold. The intersection of past and future always fascinates, and so does the unique idea of the C-01.”
