What is it?

It's an ultra-tough, everything- proof case for your mini tablet – capable of being submerged in up to 2m of water for up to an hour. It's also proofed against dirt, snow and drops from up to 1.2m. Lifeproof has been making the cases for daddy iPads and iPhones for a while but have finally got around to a mini version.

Does it work?

Sure does. Its chunkyness may be a bit offputting but does make it safe from the seasons. In the spirit of testing rigour, I took my iPad to the dirtiest, wettest place I could think of: Glastonbury. Where, obviously, it was sunny all weekend. But for the brief period when it did rain I was brave enough to get the tablet out and hold it in the rain. Nothing, I can report, broke. Though Lifeproof is very keen to point out that you should test each case before you put your iPad in it (it also tests each case before shipping). And it doesn't take responsibility for damage either, so be careful.

How does it work?

Unlike the Lifeproof iPhone case, which covers the screen with a thin plastic sheath, the iPad version clips around the edge of the screen with rubber grips, meaning you can still touch and swipe easily. The headphone socket is filled with a screw-in plastic cap and the Lightning/30-pin connector can be accessed by a folding, waterproof (obvs) clip.

Is it worth the money?

There's no doubt that £64 is a lot for a case, but if you're going to be using yours a lot outside, it's a decent investment.

Price: £63.99

Protection: Waterproof to 2m, drop-proof from 1.2m
