Google is changing the look and boosting the speed of web searches on the iPhone with the release of a major new version of its Google Mobile iPhone app dubbed Google Search.

The app has been overhauled with a new user interface that makes it much easier to start searching as soon as the app is launched.

"There are now more ways to interact with the app," said Google in a March 15 blog post.

Swiping the screen from left to right will toggle a new toolbar that helps you filter search results. Swiping down the page when browsing or looking at a webpage will bring up the search bar so you can start a new search or change your settings.

"For those who use other Google apps, there's an Apps button at the bottom of the screen for rapid access to the mobile versions of our products," said Google.

While the new, easier to use UI is probably the first thing you will notice, there are also "a number of improvements we've made to everything else you love in the app, including Google Goggles, Voice Search, Search with My Location, Gmail unread counts and more," revealed Google.

"There's a lot in the app," said Google, "so we've added a simple help feature to let you explore it. Access this by tapping the question mark above the Google logo."

The Google Search app is available for free in Apple's App Store starting from Wednesday.
