Google’s new YouTube app means you never stop watching

Update allows you to watch videos whilst browsing content

Google have updated their YouTube app for Android and iOS systems in a bid to bring the mobile experience in line with that of the desktop.

The updates reflect the continuing shift from traditional PCs to mobile devices and Google's need to capitalise on these changes.

The redesigned interface allows users to swipe videos into the bottom right corner of the screen, allowing them to keep watching content whilst browsing the rest of the site.

Other new features include the introduction of playlists to mobile (including those from channels and those from other users) as well as the integration of the Cast button. The app now also allows users to queue videos, creating playlists on the fly.

This has been added to support Google’s Chromecast dongle: a £30 device that plugs into the HDMI slot in TVs and allows users to stream Netflix and other video content into their front room.

There’s also been an overhaul of the visual style including a new icon for the app, all very much in keeping with Google’s recent changes to its design language, best encapsulated by the ‘card’ design of Google Now.
