iPhone 6c, Apple Watch 2 could be released at Apple event in March

If Apple were to release the Apple Watch 2 shortly after the event, it would mark around a year since the wearable was first released

Apple is planning a major event for March, according to reports.

The company will use the event to launch its Apple Watch 2 as well as potentially releasing an iPhone 6c with a smaller screen, according to 9to5mac.

Both devices have been strongly rumoured to be launching early in 2016, and so a March event would suit both launches. It would also mean that Apple will move towards a yearly cycle of updates for the wearable, which it uses for most of its mobile products.

Apple first released the Watch in April, after announcing it in September 2014. It brought significant updates at its most recent event, in September — which included new straps, colours and software features, though no major upgrade to the Watch itself.

The Apple Watch 2 has been rumoured to feature its own camera, as well as new sleep tracking and sensor technologies.

The iPhone 6c has been much-rumoured but few details have been released. Leaks have suggested that the phone will come with the same 4-inch screen size that was found on the iPhone 5 and 5s, and come in a largely similar design, but feature the upgraded components found in the iPhone 6s.

Apple previously used to hold its major events towards the end of the year — ordinarily launching the new iPhone in September or October, and then launching the new iPad soon after that.

But the company seems to be moving towards holding other events earlier in the year. In March of this year, it held an event where it showed off the new super-slim Macbook and the Apple Watch, before it went on sale a month later.
