Most active Facebook games of the past four weeks: 'FarmVille' scoops prestigious award
Four of the most active Facebook games here were part of the 13th Interactive Achievement Awards on Thursday, February 18 in Las Vegas.
FarmVille, Restaurant City, Farm Town, and Bejeweled Blitz were all nominated in the category of Social Networking Game of the Year for 2009, while FarmVille was nominated twice more, for Outstanding Achievement in Online Game Play and Outstanding Innovation in Gaming groups.
Despite the late-2009 scandal surrounding the way FarmVille and some of its parent company's other games had made money from players, the headway it had made in bringing gaming to the masses meant that the Facebook application was awarded with the Social Networking award.
In the other categories that FarmVille was present in, it was a Nintendo DS puzzle-solving game called Scribblenauts that was deemed most innovative for the way it converted handwritten words into in-game objects. Modern Warfare 2, 2009's best-selling video game, won the Online Game Play award.
