Google is set to launch a new update to its Chromecast TV box, which will be released alongside the company’s new phones later this year.

The new streaming box — which is about the size of a USB thumb drive — will come in new colours, have much faster connectivity, be able to play much more speedily and could show feeds like those from Twitter, according to leaks. Google is set to launch the device at its event at the end of September, according to documents seen by 9to5google.

The new Chromecast will be the second version of the little box. The tiny stick, which costs about £30 in the UK, allows people to stream content from the internet such as Netflix onto their TVs.

Google’s new Chromecast will add features like “Fast Play” and faster internet ,so that the box can play videos and other content more quickly. The dongle will also come in three collours: yellow, black and red.

It also supports Google Cast for Audio, a similar technology to its video tool that allows people to stream music from their computer or phone to speakers. The documents suggest that the Chromecast will be able to be plugged into external speakers using a cable.

Google’s September 29 event is expected to see the launch of two new Nexus devices — a smaller Nexus 5 made by LG, and a phablet-sized Nexus 6 from Huawei — as well as the new Chromecast.
