Nexus 9: Google slashes price of its flagship tablet in UK

Sale comes just after a similar one for Google’s premium phone, and could indicate that it is gearing up for a big hardware refresh

Google has slashed the price of its Nexus 9 tablet in the UK, knocking more than a third off the price.

The tablet can be bought at Amazon and Argos, where the 16GB model is going for £200 rather than £319, and the 32GB model also has £100 off. Google’s own store has the deal on the smaller model, but is not showing the discount on the bigger one.

Google ran a very similar offer on its Nexus 6 handset last week. As with that deal, it’s not clear whether the price cut is permanent or is just part of a temporary sale.

Both sales tally with rumours that Google is looking to release new versions of its flagship Nexus devices later this year. It’s likely that those will coincide with the launch of the new version of the mobile operating system, codenamed Android M, which has been scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of this year.

The Nexus 9 is part of Google’s flagship phone programme, which sees the search giant work with hardware companies to release phones built for Android. The tablet was made by HTC, but Google has worked with other companies including Motorola to produce the devices.
