Roger Goodell: NFL Twitter account hacked and falsely reports commissioner's death

Goodell is apparently alive and well.

The National Football League’s official Twitter account falsely announced the death of commissioner Roger Goodell on Tuesday.

"We regret to inform our fans that our commissioner, Roger Goodell, has passed away. He was 57,” the now-deleted tweet read.

Brian McCarthy, an NFL spokesperson, announced that the NFL account was indeed hacked and that Goodell is alive and kicking.

“The NFL Twitter account was hacked," McCarthy wrote on Twitter. "@nflcommish is alive and well.”

Several other tweets were also deleted and the culprit has gone unnamed. However, the account had followed one person since the hack, user @IDissEverything whose since been suspended on Twitter.

Goodell, who’s been the league’s commissioner since 2006, also had his Wikipedia page changed on Tuesday. The site listed his cause of death as “deflated lungs,” seemingly referencing the New England Patriots and Tom Brady’s “Deflategate” controversy.

The hack comes after several other high-profile Twitter accounts were compromised including: Mark Zuckerberg, Drake, Tenacious D, Keith Richards, Bon Iver and Kylie Jenner.
