Galaxy S10: Leaked Samsung charging feature hints at huge battery new battery feature

Two-way charging could revolutionise the way Samsung Galaxy owners use their phones

With less than a month to go until the unveiling of the next Samsung flagship smartphone – presumably called the Galaxy S10 – the latest leak suggests there will be a major update to the device's wireless charging capabilities.

Samsung already supports wireless charging for its high-end Galaxy S-series and Note range of phones, but its next-generation handset may be able to share its battery power with other phones.

Huawei introduced this feature last year with the Mate 20 Pro, which uses a charging coil in the back of the phone to give as well as receive wireless charging.

All that is needed to share the battery is to enable the charging function in the phone's settings and place it near another device compatible with Qi wireless charging.

The Galaxy S10 is also expected to support 5G, according to separate leaks, though this may only be available for owners in the US and South Korea.

Samsung is yet to reveal any official details about the Galaxy S10, but a slew of leaks and rumours mean that most details about the device may already be known.

The South Korean electronics giant is likely to unveil the device at an event announced for 20 February, with the release date expected in early March.

The device it reveals is unlikely to be a surprise for many, after several images – including one taken on a bus – surfaced online in recent weeks.

Other leaks suggest Samsung will include an in-built cryptocurrency wallet with the Galaxy S10, after trademark applications were spotted by SamMobile.

The same publication also confirmed rumours of the reverse wireless charging feature.

The Blockchain Keystore trademark follows several other smartphone makers who have shown interest in supporting bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies within the software of their devices.

Images of the cryptocurrency wallet feature were shared on Twitter, with images appearing to also confirm a hole-punch design for the front camera of the Galaxy S10.

Unlike Apple and other high-end smartphone makers who have opted for a notch design, Samsung is instead expected to feature a hole in the top corner of the screen for the camera.

Samsung is expected to release three different versions of the Galaxy S10, with each model ranging in size, specs and price.

The lower-end Galaxy S10 Lite will start at around £700, while the high-end Galaxy S10 Plus is expected to reach up towards £1,400.

Another highly-anticipated feature is an in-screen fingerprint sensor, which also features on the Huawei Mate 20 Pro.

But the biometric security feature may be unusable when a screen protector is placed on the device, according to one leak.

This may not be an issue if another leak is correct, which suggests the Galaxy S10 will come with a self-healing screen.
