Though FIFA 10 played second fiddle to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in the multi-format, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 charts, it was the number-one best-selling PlayStation Portable game of 2009 in the UK.

Though FIFA 10, released in October, and FIFA 09, released a year previous in October 2008, proved the most popular amongst UK PSP users, following them were four PSP exclusives - October's Gran Turismo and LittleBigPlanet PSP versions, along with 2007's Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters and 2006's Tekken: Dark Resurrection.

The Grand Theft Auto spin-offs, Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories, were released in 2005 and 2006 respectively.

The latest handheld game in the GTA series, Chinatown Wars, failed to chart on either the PSP or Nintendo DS charts, despite being even better reviewed than the Stories. However, the Stories games have been subject to price cuts, available together for two-thirds the price of the newer game in the UK, which may explain their greater immediate popularity.

Proving either that the PSP market is full of classic titles, or that the system's release schedule has become somewhat stagnant, less than half of the top 20 bestsellers were released in 2009. Four of those came out during or after October: Gran Turismo, FIFA 10, LittleBigPlanet, and Invizimals. The other four were Ben 10: Alien Force (February), Resistance: Retribution (March), Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (June), and Dissidia: Final Fantasy (September).

Five were from 2008, two from 2007, and four from 2006. The oldest game in the top 20 was Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition which first saw the UK sun in September of 2005.
