Britain's first pregnant man says he has received death threats

The 20-year-old has put his gender reassignment on hold to have a baby

The first British man to have a baby says he has received death threats since news of his pregnancy was announced.

Earlier this week, Hayden Cross revealed in The Sun that he is four months pregnant. The 20-year-old, who was born female and is undergoing gender reassignment after living as a man for three years, fell pregnant after finding a sperm donor on Facebook.

He has now chosen to put his gender reassignment surgery on hold in order to have a baby.

“I have had some good reactions [since the story broke] but I’ve had some really bad reactions,” he told Lorraine. “I’ve had death threats, I’ve had people threatening to beat me up.

“A lot of people don’t really understand the situation, and I understand that, but I just want people to be more aware that there are people who do need help and that are like me and haven’t got anybody to support them and need support.”

Cross said he has support in his friends and mother and, while he initially wanted to freeze his eggs, he claims he was unable to do so on the NHS so is having a baby because he always wanted his own family.

He said he will continue with his transition and have gender reassignment surgery after allowing his body to settle for a bit after giving birth to the baby, which is due in six months.
