Europeans are encouraged to cast their vote in the final round of the EU organic logo competition that runs until January 31, 2010.

In April, the European Commission launched a competition to decide Europe's next organic logo to be displayed on all organically certified products. Over 3,400 registered design or art students from the 27 member states submitted their designs for the competition, which were then judged by an international panel of leading design professionals and organic farm and products experts. After an initial shortlist of 100 entries was made, three final designs were selected. It is now up to Europeans to decide the winning logo that will deliver the organic message within and beyond EU borders.

The new logo is aimed at enhancing consumer protection and promoting organic practices, and will be mandatory for all pre-packaged organic products produced in the EU and that comply with EU organic labeling standards. The logo will be introduced on all certified organic products in July 2010.

"Through this online vote, the European Commission wants to ensure that the new logo appeals to as many people as possible. At the same time, this open selection process contributes to the bigger objective of making people aware of the importance of the organic farming sector," said Mariann Fischer Boel, Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development in a statement.

The competition's website will host the voting. To vote, go to:
