Pregnant women offered blood tests to assess the risk of Down's syndrome are often confused about their purpose, according to a survey of nearly 400 obstetricians published in this week's British Medical Journal. Over 80 per cent of the doctors said women did not understand the tests and half blamed the confusion on inadequate funding for counselling.
