VIGOROUS exercise by new mothers has no effect on their milk output or ability to breastfeed, research from the University of California has shown. A study involving 33 women several weeks after they had given birth found that regular aerobic exercise, such as jogging, walking or cycling, had no adverse effect on volume of breast milk or weight gain in the babies. It significantly improved the fitness of the women, they report in the New England Journal of Medicine.
