If your baby has teeth and bites when being breast-fed, try putting him or her on the floor for a short time afterwards, advises a report in New Generation, published by the National Childbirth Trust.

Most babies dislike the separation and realise it is connected with biting, says the report. Another way of curbing the habit is to say no firmly, while slipping the little finger between the baby's teeth to release the nipple. Possible causes for persistent biting include teething, attention-seeking and too little milk.
