Natalie Portman has shared a rare picture of her two children on social media.

On Sunday 10 May, people across the US celebrated Mother’s Day.

Several celebrities marked the annual observance on social media, including Angelina Jolie, who honoured her late mother, and Beyoncé, who paid homage to her mother Tina Lawson.

For her first Instagram post on Mother’s Day, Portman shared a lengthy message about her mother, describing her as “the most loving, caring, generous, cuddly, funny, smart, talented, creative person I could ever imagine getting to spend my childhood with”.

In a second post, the Jackie actor shared a throwback picture of herself cuddling her two children.

Portman has two children with her husband Benjamin Millepied: a son called Aleph, who was born in 2011, and a daughter called Amalia, who was born in 2017.

The couple first met while working together on the set of Black Swan, before marrying three years later.

Portman was pregnant with their first child when she won the Academy Award for her performance in the film.

The 38-year-old rarely shares glimpses of her family life on social media.

“Most beautiful mama,” actor Lily-Rose Depp wrote underneath Portman’s photograph, which was captured by Millepied.

“So much beauty,” West Side Story actor Rachel Zegler remarked, while Unorthodox star Shira Haas commented with a heart eyes emoji.

On 31 December 2019, Portman shared an Instagram post looking back upon the past decade, during which she wed her “partner in crime” Benjamin Millepied, “gave birth to two miraculous children”, directed her first film and “got to play incredible characters”.

The first image the actor shared among a selection showed her and her husband at the Academy Awards in 2012, during which she presented the Oscar for Best Actor.
