Weekly health and fitness agenda: ICEID, TEDGlobal, CrossFit Games Finals 2010

July is an important month in global public health with the AIDS 2010 conference taking place in Vienna July 18-23, the International Conference on Emerging Infectious Diseases 2010 (ICEID 2010) ending on July 14 in Atlanta, Georgia and TEDGlobal 2010 begins in Oxford, England. Plus the world's fittest compete in the CrossFit Games 2010 on July 16.

International Conference on Emerging Infectious Diseases 2010 (ICEID 2010)

ICEID 2010 is the seventh annual conference hosted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in cooperation with global health leaders and organizations including the WHO. The professional event aims to identify new diseases to understand their cause, target and how to control them. TEDGlobal 2010

The four-day event is centered on 'And now the good news...' The event is sold-out but clips will be available on the web after the event. The sessions will address a number of social issues from peace to design. Health is a constant theme at TED events and this program has sessions focusing on 'The Unknown Brains,' 'Healthier Together' and 'Human Systems'.

CrossFit Games Finals 2010 (World Championship)

CrossFit Games are the final competition where the world's fittest have triumphed in 'regionals' and 'sectionals' around the world including Iceland and Australia to make it to the finals and be the winner of  their section (male, female, over 50, teams) and get the $25,000 (€19,755) prize. The twist is all of the athletes competing have no clue what workouts they will have to endure of the three-day event. CrossFit is about metabolic conditioning and the workouts are used by various militaries.
