Model, mother and host of Lip Sync Battle, Chrissy Teigen is well-known for speaking openly about taboo topics, such as postnatal depression and anxiety.

Now, the 32-year-old has been lauded by her fans for starting a dialogue around her experiences with in vitro fertilisation (IVF).

After posting a photo of her one-month old son Miles on Instagram, Teigen responded to a follower’s question asking if she had used IVF to conceive her second child.

She responded: “Yep, he was just on ice a smidge longer, science and the human body are beautiful.” Her fans have since praised the model for being so frank and helping to break the taboo surrounding fertility issues.

‘I really care’ jackets

It’s cool to care (Wildfang)

When Melania Trump wore a Zara jacket that read, “I really don’t care, do u?” on a visit to meet children who were being held at a migration centre, people were quick to accuse the Flotus of being insensitive.

In response, feminist fashion brand Wildfang launched its own merchandise with the words, “I really care, don’t u?” written on the back, with 100 per cent of the proceeds going to charity.

Since launching the items, Wildfang revealed it has raised $250,000 (£188,525) for non-profit organisation Raices, that provides legal services to immigrants and refugees.

You can purchase Wildfang’s “I really care, don’t u?” range, which includes T-shirts, hoodies and bomber jackets, here.

#FreeThePimple

Louisa Northcote started a acne positivity hashtag (Instagram/lounorthcote)

Model and fashion buying student Louisa Northcote has sparked an Instagram movement to help break down the stigma surrounding adult acne.

Dubbed #FreeThePimple, the movement has quickly gained traction and been used by hundreds of people on the photo-sharing website.

Northcote hopes that it will create an online community for anyone enduring the physical and emotional affects of acne and help them to embrace the skin they are in.

White Wine

Serve white wine chilled, but never icy

As we start to make the transition from spring to summer, it’s time to ditch the rosé in favour of a glass of white.

According to The Independent’s wine columnist, Terry Kirby, white wine – which makes for the perfect accompaniment to fish and grain dishes as well as salads – should be served chilled, but not icy – no matter how hot it is outside.

For a tipple that is fresh, clean and elegant, we recommend picking up the Laurent Miquel Albarino 2015.

Vegan Beauty

Lush’s first foundation is vegan and packaging free

Veganism is on the rise and the beauty world is listening. This week, Lush Cosmetics launched its very first foundation – Slap Sticks – which is not only vegan, cruelty and packaging-free, but also comes in an impressive 40 shades.

Unlike most foundations, it comes in a solid egg-shape housed in a natural black wax seal and it is available to buy in 18 countries for one month only.

World Cup sexism

Alan Sugar put his foot in it on Twitter (BBC)

This week, Lord Sugar faced criticism for “casual sexism” after sharing a tweet that implied women have no interest in watching the World Cup.

While promoting the confectionery business of former winner of The Apprentice Sarah Lynn, he wrote: “Send a personalised gift of sweets to the wife/girlfriend for ignoring her during the World Cup, only £14.99,” the tweet reads.

“Perfect way to show you still care whilst glued to the TV.”

After the backlash, Sugar updated his Twitter promotional messaging and thanked The Independent “for the tip”.

Heatwave commutes

The UK is in the midst of a heatwave and while that affords some lucky souls the opportunity to bask in the sun, for many it means facing a gruelling hot and sweaty commute to work.

While there’s no avoiding sweaty armpits on crowded trains, there are measures you can take to make the journey more bearable for you and everyone around you.

Simply make sure to double up on deodorant, create plenty of space in the carriage and make wise food choices.

Sex Shaming

‘Love Island’ contestants have been criticised on social media for ‘sex shaming’ (Rex) (Rex Features)

Contestants in the Love Island villa came under fire for “sex shaming” after taking part in a game where each of the couples revealed how many sexual partners they had slept with.

Fans of the show were quick to point out a clear discrepancy in the way the men’s and women’s answers were received.

While Adam’s number of 200 women was met with light-hearted laughs, many of the female contestants were placed under greater scrutiny for sleeping with far fewer people.

Concern Trolls

Tess Holliday’s body is no one’s business (Rex) (Rex Features)

Model and author Tess Holliday has opened up about the reality of dealing with constant attacks on her weight.

In an interview with Self magazine, the mother revealed that people often question her health under the guise of concern when referring to her weight – people she refers to as “concern trolls”.

Holliday said: “It frustrates me that so many people have bought into the idea of what we should look like instead of actually giving a crap about everyone around you. People should mind their own business.”
