Dennis Quaid on 39-year age gap between him and his new wife

Dennis Quaid has opened up about the 39-year age gap between him and his wife, Laura Savoie.

In a new interview with the Today show, the 66-year-old said the age difference does not bother him and that he connects with 27-year-old Savoie in a way he hasn’t been able to with anyone else before.

“There's 30-something years between us, and we just don't even notice it,” Quaid said.

“I've never related to someone in my life better than we do.”

He continued: “We have such a great relationship and you know, love finds a way, wherever it is.

“You never know when love is coming, who it's gonna be, and you have no control over it. We just couldn't be happier.”

Last month, the Parent Trap star shocked fans when he announced that he and Savoie had tied the knot in a secret ceremony.

The couple were initially meant to get married in a lavish Hawaiian wedding but due to coronavirus restrictions, they chose to elope to California.

Speaking to People magazine, Quaid revealed that the ceremony took place on a beach in Santa Barbara with just their pastor as a witness.

“It was beautiful,” Quaid said. “Just looking into her eyes, she was the most stunning bride.”

The couple, who got engaged last October, first began dating just five months earlier, in May 2019.

Of their first meeting, said: “It was love at first sight” and that he loves who Savoie is “as a person”.

“Her character, her intelligence, of course her beauty. And her point of view of the world,” he added.

The pair’s age gap of 39 years has been criticised throughout their relationship and in November Quaid spoke out against the scrutiny.

In an interview with The Guardian, he defended his relationship, saying: “I didn’t go out looking for an age gap or someone really younger than me. You have no control over who you fall in love with.”

The actor, who has been married four times before, added that “this is the final one”.

“I know it is. I feel like I have a real partner in life,“ he said.

He was previously married to PJ Soles from 1978 to 1983, Meg Ryan from 1991 to 2001 and Kimberly Quaid from 2004 to 2018, also said he does not “fall in love easy” and that he knows this will be his final marriage.

“I’ve been married three times and this is the final one, I know it is. I feel like I have a real partner in life,” he said.
