From bragging to making fun of his friends, women have revealed the tell-tale signs a guy is trying too hard to attract them.

Dating can be a minefield, with unclear rules about what to say and when. Luckily, some women have shed light on dating dos and don’ts on AskReddit.

Constantly inviting a woman to hang out was the top-rated complaint.

“I don’t even see my best friend that often,” wrote one woman. Asking a person out twice is a useful rule of thumb to follow, said another, adding that “life is too short” to spend it with people who don’t enjoy your company.

“When every conversation with them turns sexual,” one user complained.

Others agreed: "I have a friend who does that, ever since he learnt that I was okay with casual sex."

"They see it as if I'm some sort of porn star who wants dirty talk and to be objectified all the time. Uh, no."

Attempting to fill the silence was also flagged as off-putting, as it is important to be comfortable in each other’s company.

Men also chipped in. “Not a lady, but I can always tell a dude is trying way too hard if he either starts making fun of his friends in front of a girl, if he starts trying to act all cool when he's normally goofy and fun to be around, or if he starts acting like a crazy weirdo acting and trying to 'show off' by acting like a preteen."

Trying too hard can also creep on to Facebook and Instagram, argued one woman, particularly when a guy likes all of her photos.

Personal space and respecting boundaries was another important issue.

Bragging was also a warning sign, with boasting about penis size seen as even worse.

But women also stressed that “trying too hard” isn’t a deal breaker,

"Laughing and telling him to relax a bit will usually calm him down, if he's not just a creep."

The message? As if anyone needed to be reminded - be respectful, stop being creepy and you’re on the right track. Simple.
