Royal honeymoon: Where will Meghan Markle and Prince Harry go?

Could past royal honeymoons give clues as to where Meghan and Harry will go?

On May 19, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will officially wed under the watchful eye of the nation.

However, the ceremony isn’t the only aspect of the wedding that’s capturing everybody’s attention.

The question of where Prince Harry and Ms Markle will choose to travel to on their honeymoon is as discussed a topic as the designer of the wedding dress and the flavour of their chosen cake.

Prince Harry and Ms Markle’s previous voyages away together have been well-documented.

Shortly after it was announced that the pair were romantically involved, they travelled to Norway, staying at the remote Tromvik Lodge.

Last March they were pictured together in Jamaica for a wedding and over the summer they ventured to Botswana to celebrate Ms Markle’s birthday, visiting UNESCO World Heritage Sites during their trip.

It’s been reported that the betrothed couple will be going to Namibia for their honeymoon, staying at the Hoanib Valley Camp that’s currently being built.

Kensington Palace have not yet confirmed any rumours surrounding the royal honeymoon.

The most recent reports claim that Prince Harry and Ms Markle have definitely chosen to go to Namibia after their wedding, according to a source who informed Travel + Leisure of the news.

However, royal expert Omid Scobie believes that the couple are unlikely to choose a destination that's been reported in the media prior to their nuptials.

“Unsurprisingly, with less than seven weeks until their wedding, speculation about where Meghan and Harry will go on their honeymoon is rife,” Scobie told The Independent.

“The most popular rumour has been a return to Africa, specifically a luxury lodge and safari in Namibia.

“Given they have already holidayed in Botswana twice, the trip sounds exactly like the kind of thing they would go for.

“However the latest reports may be one step ahead of the newlyweds-to-be - I’m told by several sources that they haven’t actually booked anything yet!”

According to Scobie, if Prince Harry and Ms Markle had indeed chosen to go to Namibia for their honeymoon, chances are they won’t be going there now that rumours are spreading.

“Once a private royal itinerary has been leaked, it’s likely that it would be scrapped,” he said.

“If it is Africa then I’d put my money on Malawi or Rwanda.”

Perhaps Prince Harry and Ms Markle will be taking inspiration from the honeymoons of royal couples who came before them.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge departed for the Seychelles after they married in 2011.

They spent ten days together soaking up the sun in the Indian Ocean archipelago.

On their last day, they personally thanked the Seychelles’ coastguard for helping to ensure their privacy.

Prince Harry’s parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales, decided to take to the sea for their honeymoon, as they embarked on a two-week Mediterranean cruise aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia after their 1981 wedding.

Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh enjoyed their honeymoon closer to home, spending time at Broadlands House in Hampshire, owned by Lord Mountbatten.
