EV pricing war heats up

Nissan has provoked a price war in electric vehicles with rival Mitsubishi, after announcing a retail price of 2.99 million yen for its new Leaf.

Although global pricing for both models is unconfirmed, the current Manufacturer Suggested Retail Prices (MSRP) suggest that the Nissan will be slightly cheaper in Japan, the first market for both vehicles.

Japan
Mitsubishi i-MiEV - 3.98 million yen/€31,250 (2.84 million yen/€22,300 with government incentives)
Nissan LEAF - 3.76 million yen/€29,500 (2.99 million yen/€23,500 with government incentives)

United States
Mitsubishi i-MiEV - unannounced
Nissan LEAF - $32,780/€24,293 ($25,280/€18,735 with government incentives)

United Kingdom
Mitsubishi i-MiEV (for delivery after 1/1/11) - £38,699/€43,594 (£33,699/€37,961 with government incentives)
