Subaru set for BTCC debut: Levorg estate to campaign with Plato and Turkington at the wheel

'It’s almost perfect for the modern generation of touring cars'

Jason Plato and Colin Turkington are set to compete in this year’s British Touring Car Championship – aboard a brace of Subaru Levorgs.

Entered by Team BMR, the works-backed estates will be the first ever Subarus in the BTCC. The company’s motorsport heritage is exceptional – but this is rooted in rallying, with the Impreza taking a string of drivers’ and manufacturers’ titles between 1995 and 2003.

To comply with BTCC regs, the Levorg will lose its standard four-wheel drive and run with a Mountune boxer engine turning the rear wheels only. BMR believes that the boxer unit – a Subaru calling card – will be perfectly suited to circuit racing, as its design is bottom-heavy compared to traditional engines.
