Viral TikTok shows inaccurate sizing of Skims shapewear

A woman has gone viral on TikTok with a video calling out the sizing of Kim Kardashian’s shapewear line Skims after she went up a size in the collection only to find that the undergarment still didn’t fit.

According to Mikayla Zazon, a body-positive influencer from Ohio, she recently decided to purchase an item from the reality star’s line of shapewear after hearing people “rave about” the collection.

However, as she showed in a TikTok video uploaded this week, which has since been viewed more than 3.6m times, the high-rise shapewear thong barely fits her, despite it being a size or two larger than she normally wears.

“So I ordered Skims because I’ve been hearing people rave about Kim Kardashian’s shapewear, and I decided to get it,” the 25-year-old began the video. “And because women’s sizing is so effed up, of course I decided to size up to a large.”

In the clip, Zazon then explained that she is typically a “small, medium” and a “straight-size woman,” before unveiling the extremely small Skims undergarment.

“I’m just going to put these on … I’m going to put them on over my leggings, so you can see how bad it is,” Zazon continued, before showing what the constricting garment looks like over her pants.

As she showed off various angles of herself in the shapewear, Zazon can be seen displaying her shock, with the influencer at one point attempting to pull the garment higher on her stomach only for it to roll down.

“Like… I can not make this up,” she said. “A large?! This is a large?!”

The clip, which Zazon captioned: “KIM REALLY THOUGHT THIS WAS OKAY,” has since been liked more than 485,000 times, with many others revealing that they have had similar experiences with Kardashian’s shapewear.

“Honey, I’m a large and got a large. So many tears were shed,” one person commented.

Another said: “I was also victimised by Skims shapewear.”

Others said that the shapewear sizing was indicative of the larger problem of sizing discrepancies in the clothing industry, with many pointing out the potentially harmful impact it can have on consumers.

“Proof that the problem isn’t our bodies, it’s the clothes,” one viewer wrote, while someone else said: “Imagine how poorly that could impact someone’s self-esteem.”

In a follow-up video, Zazon revealed that she had also purchased the shapewear in a medium, which she tried on for the amusement of her followers, only to find that the extremely restrictive garment made it “hurt to walk”.

“I forgot to tell you because I was so overwhelmed by how small the large was,” she explained in the video, while holding up both sizes to compare.

Zazon is not the first person to criticise the sizing of the Skims line, as another TikTok user, Adria Barich, went viral in January after she dedicated a video to Kardashian about her grievances with the shapewear.

“This video is for Kim Kardashian and Kim Kardashian only,” Barich began the clip, which has since been viewed more than 11.8m times.

After panning the camera out to show herself wearing the shapewear, Barich then said: “Hi Kimberly. What is this? I thought Skims were supposed to make me look curvalicious, not Winnie the Pooh wearing too small underwear.”

At the time, Barich told BuzzFeed that the Skims sizing is “extremely inconsistent” and that she had ordered her usual size only to find that it “could fit a doll”.

“It makes people feel bad about themselves because a size that normally would fit them is suddenly way too small,” she said.

Kardashian has previously revealed that she wears a size medium in her shapewear line.
