You know when you try on two different pairs of jeans in the same size in the same shop, and one fits but the other doesn’t, and you end up wondering what’s wrong with your body?

Well, don’t.

There’s nothing wrong with your body. Your body is great. It’s clothes sizing that’s messed up.

This is a point South African body-positive influencer Mira Hirsch has hammered home in a recent Instagram post.

Alongside two images of herself wearing jeans of the same size - one of which fits, the other doesn’t - Hirsch reminds us all not to define ourselves by the number on the labels of our clothes.

She explains that she found each pair of trousers in a different section of the same shop. Both were her size, but one pair wouldn’t do up and the other was a little loose.

“I used to absolutely DREAD shopping because of this reason alone!” Hirsch wrote.

“You look for something in your usual size, it doesn't fit and you end up leaving the store feeling so s****y about yourself, letting diet culture kick in, and self-loathing take over.”

She believes we need to stop trying to fit into what we think is the “ideal size” and simply wear clothes that make us feel great.

“Who the hell cares if it’s a few sizes bigger or smaller than what you normally wear,” Hirsch asks.

“Take back your power and wear whatever size and style you desire.”

It’s an experience and a sentiment to which many women can relate.

“You're so inspirational and beautiful!” one person commented. “Thank you so much for helping me be more confident with who I am.”

“Needed this,” added another.

Sometimes we all need to be reminded that it’s not the size of our clothes that matters but the person filling them.
