Bargain Hunter: Premiership tickets for new rugby fans

Didn't get tickets for the Rugby World Cup? You can still watch top-quality rugby when the 2015-16 Aviva Premiership rugby union season kicks off next month – and there are loads of free tickets up for grabs.

Aviva has teamed up with Premiership Rugby to give new fans the chance to go to their first-ever live match, by giving away tickets to games at all 12 clubs.

The season kicks off on Friday 16 October and you can apply for tickets for the match of your choice before then at bit.ly/1JQjavJ. You'll be told if you've been successful at least a week before your chosen fixture.

Free tours through history

Heritage Open Days are running in England from next Thursday, 10 September, until Sunday 13 September – providing you with the opportunity to see local history and architecture for free.

In Oxford, for instance, you can visit the Sheldonian Theatre and Bodleian Library. For full details of English events go to heritageopendays.org.uk.

Contactless cards protected

The amount you can spend in one transaction using a contactless card climbed from £20 to £30 this week.

Using contactless means there is no need to sign or enter a PIN. There are 58 million cards in the UK and more than £2.5bn was spent on them in the first half of 2015.

Contactless payments are accepted in a variety of places, such as Aldi, Greggs, London buses and the Tube, and post offices.

To counter fears of fraud when using the plastic, the UK Cards Association said consumers are fully protected against any losses and will not be left out of pocket.

Melt in the mouth

Tesco less rewarding

A warning: Tesco Bank is slashing the amount of Clubcard rewards points it pays to credit card holders. The rate for Clubcard and Tesco World customers will be halved to just one point for every £8 spent from the end of November.

The supermarket blamed the move on European Union regulations but experts warned that other reward schemes may follow with similar cuts.

Gary Simpson at the cashback site Quidco said: "While switching to a new card provider might seem like the only option, when the dust settles on this announcement, other providers may well follow suit as their perks schemes also become unsustainable."

Future perfect

Last month we offered readers the chance to win one of the new SmartGlider two-wheel electric scooters from the online retailer LEDHut.co.uk.

The lucky winner of the competition was Steve Huddart of Sale, near Manchester, who will be sent his prize by the company. He had to answer the question, what year in the future did Michael J Fox's character travel to in the second part of the Back to the Future movie trilogy? The answer, as thousands of you knew, was 2015. The actual date featured in the film was 21 October 2015.
