Chair of Michigan Republican party resigns saying he ‘can no longer remain silent’ about Trump
A colleague says Brandon DeFrain was 'instrumental' to the President winning the county in 2016

The chair of the Republican party in Michigan has resigned, saying he could “no longer remain silent” on US President Donald Trump.
"I have not seen a leader, I've only seen more of the same," said Brandon DeFrain in a Facebook post.
Mr DeFrain had served in the position in Bay County, Michigan, since 2014 and Vice Chairman David Scholl said his colleague was “instrumental” in getting Mr Trump votes in the state.
Bay County had voted overwhelmingly for Barack Obama in the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections, but it and the entire state went to Mr Trump in 2016. He won the county with 53 per cent of the vote.
“I'm tired of attempting to defend a machine that does not defend the people I love,” wrote in the 8 February post, according to the MLive news outlet.
Mr DeFrain endorsed the President in an appearance on NBC's “Today Show” in order to explain why the county was likely to go for Mr Trump.
Mr School said he will fill in for him as the chapter decides how to proceed after what he called a "sudden" and "unexpected" departure.
“I haven't spoke[n] much about the current state of political affairs because in the past, I believed in giving our leaders a chance,” he wrote.
He mentioned the increase in racism in schools, families, and in the streets of his community as well.
He expressed hope that despite the negative campaigns run around the country in recent years, his community would come together.
“But it seems that national politics only lead to us hating each other regardless who we vote for,” Mr Defrain said.
He went on to say that he is eschewing affiliation with any political parties in order to be “better aligned with my own values.”
Mr DeFrain said his values “represent all people, faith, gender, class, thought, race and every other denomination on our planet. I care about every human on this earth and I desire to live in a way that pursues freedom for all."
He closed his post by writing that he “will no longer be more than an independent thinker working for the good of my family and my community.”
