BP lawsuit dismissed in US

Current and former BP executives convinced a federal judge in Houston to dismiss a US shareholder lawsuit made against them on behalf of the oil company over the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

US district Judge Keith P Ellison agreed that the claims should be filed in the UK High Court because BP's home country is a "far more appropriate forum" for the hearing, given that it concerns the internal governance of a British company and that the witnesses are British.

However, the judge added that he may reverse the dismissal if the English courts "refuse to accept jurisdiction".
