Business Diary: That's rich, coming from Jamie

Jamie Dimon, chief executive of JPMorgan Chase, who clearly has a difficult time buying into the theory that bankers should spend all their time apologising, is back on his high horse. At a conference organised by Goldman Sachs – and presumably therefore to a receptive audience – Dimon was scathing about the ongoing protests about the distribution of wealth. "Acting like everyone who's been successful is bad and that everyone who is rich is bad. I just don't get it."

Whoops! NI lets its paywall slip

News International has had plenty on its plate of late, but even so, it's been strangely quiet about how the great paywall adventure is going. Still, maybe the next update on the numbers viewing its sites will be more upbeat. Yesterday the paywall fell over briefly, prompting a headlong rush of visitors curious about what they might be missing because they're too tight-fisted to pay.

Is it a 'Great Day' for the Co-op?

Breaking news: there is a late entry in the race to be Christmas number one. While Gareth Malone's Military Wives Choir looks to have it sewn up, unless Towie or the X Factor can pull off a surprise, don't rule out Peter Marks, chief executive of the Co-operative. He plays drums in Angel Square, a band made up of senior executives at the Co-op, which has just released a cover version of Take That's "Greatest Day". Before you sneer, all proceeds to Mencap.

Occupy moves up in the world

We are indebted to the "reformedbroker" blog for its natty little piece of research on the top 20 financial terms of 2011. We won't publish the full list here. Predictably, Europe came top, and Merkozy was the third most important term of the year. But our eye was caught by the word in second place, Occupy. Truly, global capitalism must be rocking on its heels.
