Former Deutsche Bank executive found dead in London home

A retired Deutsche Bank executive has been found dead at his London home in what appears to be a suicide.

The body of William Broeksmit was found at his South Kensington home on Sunday shortly after midday by London police responding to reports of a man hanging at a house.

Scotland Yard confirmed a 58-year old a man was pronounced dead at the scene and the death is being treated as "non-suspicious".

A spokesperson said: "Police were called at 12.35pm on Sunday to a man found hanging at Evelyn Gardens, SW7.

"Kensington and Chelsea police, ambulance and air ambulance all attended. A 58-year-old man was declared dead at the scene. The death is being treated as non-suspicious."

Mr Broeksmit, who retired last year, joined the German lender in the 1990s and had close ties with Deutsche's co-chief executive Anshu Jain.

In an internal email first obtained by Bloomberg News, Jain and co-chief Juergen Fitschen said:"We are deeply saddened by Bill's death. He was a dear friend and colleague to many of us who benefited from his intellect and wisdom.

They added: "Our thoughts and condolences are with his wife and family at this time. We will remember him for his contributions to Deutsche Bank, thoughtful advice and personal friendship."

Mr Broeksmit worked at Deutsche Bank from 1996 to 2001. He returned to the bank in 2008 where he served as head of portfolio risk optimisation until his retirement in February 2013.

In 2012, he was considered for the role of head of risk officer but his nomination was blocked by German regulators citing his lack of experience manage a large number of employees.
