The chief executive of Harrods has left the iconic London department store after less than a year in the role.

A Harrods spokesman confirmed that James McArthur, who joined the luxury store last April, had left but declined to comment further. Mr McArthur was a former Gucci vice president and has also been interim chief executive of Yves Saint Laurent. Michael Ward will continue as managing director of Harrods. In addition to its flagship store in London's Knightsbridge, Harrods has airport shops and an online operation.
