Jaeger reports record Christmas sales boosted by online shopping
Fashion retailer Jaeger took full advantage of its new website, as online sales jumped 57%, helping it to a record Christmas.
The boost comes as online retailer Shop Direct, which also owns Littlewoods, also reported strong sales. Alex Baldock said: “This year, 43% of all our sales were through mobile devices, up from 28% last year. So, next year we think every transaction will use a mobile device at some point during the buying process.”
Over at Jaeger, sales jumped 23% on a like-for-like basis over the 13 weeks to December 28.
Chief executive Colin Henry said: “Our click and collect offer doubled to 20% this year and the virtual relationship is vital.”
He added that women’s coats and dresses sold particularly well, up 40%. A relaunched loyalty programme also helped, with 55% of all sales coming from customers in the scheme.
Shop Direct said sales were up 5% in the six weeks to December 28, with Very.co.uk and Isme.com up 27%. Littlewoods has struggled in recent years, but the company said sales were down 5%, which was a “manageable” level.
