Two brands of children’s yoghurt have been recalled over fears they might contain plastic.

Sainsbury’s urged its customers to return its Strawberry Fromage Frais pouches to their nearest store where they will receive a full refund.

The supermarket told consumers it was a “precautionary measure” but confirmed a “small number” of its own label yoghurt with a use-by date of May 7, 2016 might contain small pieces of blue plastic.

Sainsbury’s has apologised for the “inconvenience” and said that no others products or dates codes are affected by the issue.

Müller, meanwhile, is recalling its Kids Corner Butterflies strawberry yoghurt four-pack with a best before date of April 27, 2016, over worries it may contain a separate piece of plastic. The batch comes from Müller facility in Market Drayton in Shropshire.

The disc is pink in colour and measures 3cm by 1cm and is used to test systems in the brands production line which are in place to protect product quality, according to the company.

“This is an isolated incident, and an extensive investigation by Müller Yoghurt and Dessert Quality is under way,” the company said in a statement.

Both the product recalls were issued by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) over the weekend.

The Independent has contacted Sainsbury’s and Müller for comment.
