A new terminal at the country's largest container port is set to open its door today, creating 1,500 new jobs and boasting the capability to handle the world's largest container ships.

The expansion at the Port of Felixstowe is part of a £1bn investment drive, and was welcomed by Confederation of British Industry, the business lobby group.

The new terminal, which will include two berths, will feature seven of the largest container cranes in the world, and could boost the value of imports and exports that currently pass through the port by up to £20bn, according to figures from the Port. Some 680 new permanent jobs will be created within the port as a result of the new terminal, while another 820 will be in companies related to the port.
