Clive Mendonca scored twice as Charlton recovered from their mauling at Nottingham Forest last weekend to inflict Swindon's third successive defeat.

Mendonca's pair, including a controversial penalty, took his goals tally for the season to 12 as Charlton, the First Division's leading scorers, reinforced their claim to be in the top six.

Charlton took the lead in the ninth minute when Carl Leaburn and Mendonca set up Keith Jones - on his 100th appearance for the club - to score with a low shot drilled in off Fraser Digby's right-hand post.

After two fine saves from Digby, Charlton increased their lead in the 42nd minute when Brian Borrows was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area, referee Andy D'Urso acting on the advice of his assistant as the ball bounced awkwardly between Jones and the defender. Mendonca converted Charlton's first penalty of the season.

Charlton added their third goal 12 minutes into the second half when Mendonca, with his back to goal on the edge of the penalty area, took Bowen's pass, turned and shot past Digby.
