Would-be student forces Oxford to review its postgraduate admissions policy

A student who sued St Hugh's College, Oxford for refusing him a place because he couldn't show he had £12,900 for living costs in his bank account will be allowed to take his place, after the university agreed to review its controversial postgraduate admissions policy, which critics say excludes poorer students.

Damien Shannon, 26, from Salford, was turned down for a master's degree as he only had £9,000, which he said was enough to support himself. After a hearing in Manchester, the university announced it will re-examine its financial admissions rules before September.
