How to personalise your living room

The next interior design trend encourages to pair themes and textures that fit your style

Tuesday 29 August 2017 12:25 BST

With creativity at its heart, interior design relies on understanding how individual pieces can connect. Seeing an arrangement in a showroom may be an inspiration, but adding your personality is what will really make you feel comfortable in your living room.

A key step to setting up your own theme is matching wallpaper and accessories with personalised upholstery. And how that comes together will only depend on how far your creativity can go.

Drawing from its rich design history, Laura Ashley has more than 60 years of cultivating this creativity to help thread designs together through colour and texture encouraging you to have your living room designed by you.

Upholstered in the UK, these are traditionally British pieces that are full of home-grown flair and trusted for their quality. And with more than 40 shapes, 10 sizes and more than 100 fabric choices, you can tailor your look until it’s perfect for you.

Choosing a sofa

Kingston two-seater sofa (red), from £1,225; Tarran upholstered two-seater sofa (beige), from £1,295

Being one of the main pieces of furniture of a living room, choosing the right sofa will enhance the room’s aesthetic. Pair your chosen fabric with classic shapes like the Lynden sofa (from £1,085) or other time-tested favourites such as Mortimer (from £1,050) and Kingston (from £1,225). You can customise the cover whether you prefer it to be fixed or loose. And you can also choose between foam and fibre-filled or only fibre-filled cushions.

For wider, airy interiors, larger sizes such as the Grande can take a bare room from empty space to sophisticated comfort. Grande size is available in many of the ranges including the Tarran (from £1,295), which is perfect for styles that are more contemporary.

If you enjoy a resting evening in the company of your favourite book and a cup of tea, create cosy corners with the snuggler. Designed to tempt you into curling up for an evening of relaxation, the snuggler comes in the majestic, curled design of the Gloucester (from £840), and also the welcoming square shape of the Kendal (from £805).

The finishing touch comes in the form of feature chairs. Customising the leather, the cushion and even the leg colour will add a personal touch of luxury to your home. Combining character and function, the Addison Occasional (from £717) chair or the Bramley Rocking (£227.50) are ideal for stately offices.

Care and protect

Regardless of the shape or size of your choice, sofa and chair arms can quickly show signs of wear and tear. However, armcaps can be an ideal solution to keep them longer-lasting. And you can order them in matching fabrics. Similarly you can grab some scatter cushions and create a luxuriously cushy look with ease.

While design is important, you shouldn’t ignore proper protection. The upholstery is treated with anti-stain protector, but accidents can happen, so Laura Ashley offers a five-year protection plan.

Time and budget

Whether you’re on a tight deadline or a tight budget, there’s a solution to both. There’s a two-week express delivery available for four of the key designs, in addition to interest-free credit that allows you to create your dream home by spreading the cost of your payments.
