Claire Beale's Best in Show: Carlsberg (Saatchi & Saatchi)

Do you remember Carlsberg's Old Lions ad, starring Jack Charlton, Bobby Charlton and Peter Beardsley? "Carlsberg don't do pub teams, but if they did they'd probably be the best pub team in the world." Superb.

This time around, Carlsberg and its agency, Saatchi & Saatchi, is "not doing" football wives. No, not the Wag kind. The Carlsberg footie wife would be much more accommodating than that.

The viral is filmed on a handheld camera in the crowd at Kingsmeadow, AFC Wimbledon's ground. An announcement comes over the Tannoy – an important message for a fan from his wife: "She's just called from St George's hospital where she's given birth to a healthy, 6lb, 4oz baby boy," the announcer says – then adds that she's agreed to name the kid after Wimbledon players, is happy to hire an au pair from Sweden and will get a taxi home from the hospital on Tuesday so that he doesn't have to miss the game with Bromley.

You can guess the sign-off: "Carlsberg don't do wives, but if they did they'd probably be the best wives in the world."

Spoilsports have pointed out that Tennent's did bogus stadium announcements almost a decade ago. That was pre-YouTube, though, so traction was tiny. This is 2008, so log on and pass it on.
